As with everything in life, working with the right people can make things much easier. Building a new custom home can be fun and exciting, even more so when you have the right team working for you. 

Having the right Industry Partners on your team is very important, in addition to aligning yourselves with a great Realtor and Lender, an Architect / Designer and good local builder are equally important.  Imagine a chair, all 4 legs are necessary in order for it to be useful. 

Working with your Architect / Designer and Builder is where the magic begins.  Designing your beautiful new custom home to meet your lifestyle can be fun and exciting with the right partners on your team.  This is where your dreams meet paper and the creative options are endless, this can be the foundation of wonderful family memories for years to come.

Your Architect / Designer - Architects and Plan Designers  create the magic that transforms your dreams into your beautiful new custom home.  They combine the input from your Realtor regarding your lot, your builder and lender with regard to target pricing and house size with your ideas, style and amenities desired.  They bring pencil to paper so you can see and imagine the life you will have in your beautiful new home. 

There is a distinct difference between an Architect who goes to college and obtains a degree in architecture and  designer.  There is also a significant difference in the fees they charge.  In most cases your builder can provide you a list of recommended Architects and Designers based on what you are looking to build and the price range you would like to be in.  In most cases, the plan designer is the most cost effective partner for new custom home construction unless you are seeking elaborate exterior landscaping or interior designs.  

Your Custom Builder - Finding the right builder is most important Industry Partner, as the builder is the quarterback of your team.  You will be married to your builder for the entire term of the construction of your new home and divorce can be expensive.  Finding a good qualified building partner that you feel comfortable with is of the up most importance.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  

When interviewing for this position, it is important to check their references.  Speaking with past clients, your realtor and lending partner for feedback as well as touring their current homes under construction and if, possible ones they have recently completed is the best way to start.  Social media is also an easy way to check up on them as there is so much information available online.  

You can also check with the local Association of Home Builders to get feed back as well as see if your prospective builder has won any awards for construction and design.  

Once you have the right team in place, your Realtor, Lender, Designer and Builder and they are all sharing the same goal of delivering the beautiful new custom home of your dreams, you can relax and enjoy the process looking forward to building years of wonderful memories in your families new home.
